OUR INTERDISCIPLINARY THEMATIC UNIT WORK IN-PROGRESS

Your initial steps (due by Thursday, 10/9):

Create a linked wiki page below that will serve as your unit work space (e.g., Jay's Thematic Unit Wiki or something like that...).

As your first step in that work space, post a list of at least 3 possible content focuses (e.g., a novel, literary genre, historical era related to literary study, author, etc.) around which you could shape a unit of instruction (again, your CT is an important resource here) to be taught in the spring.

Along with this list, generate some possible themes that would fit well with the content you might be teaching — consider themes that will engage middle grades and/or high school students, especially resistant students. Here are some examples of possible themes (note that some of these are topics rather than themes). Next week's reading, "Creating Instructional Units" by Tchudi & Mitchell (available on moodle), will help provide insights into how to frame a unit using a thematic approach.
